I was sceptical about how good the Who finale was going to be, but I have to say that I wasn’t let down, the team certainly delivered.
The episode was very good, although I have to say that the twist on the Face of Boe is totally messing with my head. I need to think about that one for a while.
I’d heard good reviews on the One Man Star Wars Trilogy show from when it was at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, so when I found that it was going to be in Reading I booked a couple of tickets for Alice and myself.
Well, I have to say that Murphy struck, and due to severe delays on the trains, Alice wasn’t able to make it, but I did, and I have to say that it really is a great show.
The warm up act before the show (who I’m annoyed that can’t remember the name of) was excellent, but Charles Ross was excellent. The only other similar act I’ve seen was the Gary Shelford performance of Animal Farm at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2006, but this had a much quicker pace.
Essentially Charles Ross performs an abridges version of the original three star wars films in 60 minutes. It was fast paced and extremely funny, a must see if you get the opportunity.
Well, I’ve been back at work doing half days for the last week or so, but decided that due to the amount of work that I’d put in a full shift today.
I managed it, but only just, we were incredibly busy and boy, was I knackered when I got home, I don’t know how I’m going to stay awake through the “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” tonight.
We’ve just watched the recording of “Keith Allen is Going to Hell”, which I have to say was quite funny but more than a bit scary.
After seeing this video clip on the show, I felt that I had to post it online.
Jesus Singing I will Survive
Well, we had a quote from a local Corgi installer yesterday, and today, it was the turn of British Gas.
The guy had a good look around, and recommended a Worcester 28i Junior Boiler, with a wireless thermostat, which was similar to the installation suggested by the Corgi installer.
What I wasn’t ready for was the price. I had fully expected British gas to come in with a quote of at least £5k, but they were only £300 more than the local guy, and this included 1 year service cover worth £200, so we made the decision to go with them.
I feel a little guilty as I would have rather gone with the smaller local company, but BG just made us an offer that we’d have been daft to refuse.
Hopefully a surveyor will come out this week, and the work will be done the next week. It can’t come soon enough for us, as it really isn’t any fun having no hot water.
Well, the inevitable has happened. This morning there was no hot water because the pilot light on the back boiler had gone out.
I tried for 2 hours to get the pilot light working, but with no luck, so I called British Gas for an engineer to come out and take a look. The guy turned up this afternoon, took one look at the boiler and condemned it.
The boiler is about 28 years old, and the only spare parts you can get are screws, so it can’t be repaired, but apparently the regulations have now changed, as you’re not allowed to use vents in the floor to feed a back boiler in a terraced house :o(
The engineer thought that the bill would probably be abut £3.5 – 4k, which I have to confess is a lot less than I thought, but still a lot to shell out.
So now we have absolutely no hot water, and are waiting on a call from British Gas and a couple of other heating installers for quotes on how much the work will cost, and when it can be done.
Fingers crossed that its not too much.
Just as I was about to finish my afternoon walk, I saw my first Painted Lady Butterfly of the year. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me, and when I went back a few minutes later it was gone.
Tonights episode was quite good, not as great as last week, but in “Utopia” we see the return of The Master.
Thoroughly enjoyable, even if it was a Russell T Davies episode.
I saw a post on Aidan’s Wessex Wildlife page that showed Lesser butterfly Orchids in flower at Holmsley. I emailed Aidan, and got a response late last night, so I decided to go out and search for them today.
We found them easily enough (well its easy when you’ve been told exactly where they are), and there are a good number making an impressive show.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen the lesser butterflies, and after the failed search at Fletchwood Meadows, it was nice to see them. We also found the Southern Marsh Orchids which are about 100m further down the track, but they were past their best, and going to seed.
Anyway, here are a couple of the shots I managed to get.

Not a good night last night. After a conversation with Alice, I walked home, and found myself crying most of the way. I’ve got a knot in my stomach the size of a fist, and I only managed about 2 hours sleep.
So bad that I was rather ill as soon as I got up, and not feeling up to much.
I hope tat we manage to sort ourselves out, as I really can’t imagine my life without Alice.
