Gas Boiler Install – Part I

Well, I arranged to work from home today, as british gas were coming to deliver the boiler and parts in the morning, and then start installing in the afternoon.

Well, firstly it took ages for me to dial into the work network over my broadband connection, but I did manage it eventually. Then because I only have a 1meg connection, it was taking about 5 minutes every time I saved a file :o(

Well, the boiler stuff was delivered at about 09:30, so all went well to start with, but then it got to about 15:30 and nobody had turned up to install, I’d received no phonecalls, except from the electricians wanting to know when the gas engineers wanted them to wire the boiler up.

I called BG, only to be told that nobody was going to come today because of a problem on a previous job, but that they’d be here first thing tomorrow morning.

Not so bothered that they had a problem on a previous job, just a bit pissed off that nobody bothered to tell me, and that I had to call in to find out what was going on.

Finally kicked off Broadband supplier change

Despite being promised by Pipex that they would send me a MAC code within 3 working days, it still hadn’t arrived 1 week later, so I called to chase it up.

Anyway, they gave me the code over the phone, and I immediately used it to sign up for the PlusNet 20gb download option, as they were offering a 90 day free cancellation promise if you aren’t satisfied with the service.

This should come into effect on 10th July, so we should have a faster connection by Tuesday, which will make working from home a damn site easier.

As I’ve heard so many horror stories about Pipex continuing to take money even after the contract has ended, I took the liberty of changing my payment method from a monthly credit card payment to a direct debit payment, so hopefully this will kick in before the contract ends.

At least with a Direct Debit I can cancel the agreement with the bank as soon as we have connected to the PlusNet connection.
